Activate Creator Mode on LinkedIn

You can no longer turn LinkedIn® Creator Mode on. LinkedIn removed the Creator Mode on/off toggle in March 2024. The useful parts of the old experience did not simply disappear: LinkedIn retained creator tools and analytics while removing the separate mode.

If you have arrived here looking for instructions to activate Creator Mode, the old steps are obsolete. What matters now is understanding what replaced it and configuring your profile around what you actually want LinkedIn® to do for you.

What happened to LinkedIn® Creator Mode?

LinkedIn announced that profile hashtags would be removed in February 2024 and that the Creator Mode toggle would be removed in March 2024. LinkedIn also said members would retain access to creator sharing tools and analytics, subject to the relevant access criteria.

LinkedIn’s own help documentation remains the best source for the platform-level changes: Updates to Creator Mode.

What replaced Creator Mode?

  • No Creator Mode switch: there is no separate mode to activate or deactivate.
  • Follow or Connect: LinkedIn introduced the option to choose which action is primary on your profile.
  • No “Talks about” profile hashtags: the profile topics associated with Creator Mode were removed.
  • Creator analytics: LinkedIn retained creator analytics and access to Analytics & tools.
  • Creator features: access to tools such as newsletters and LinkedIn Live is governed by LinkedIn’s current eligibility criteria rather than by switching on Creator Mode.

What should you do instead?

Do not try to recreate Creator Mode. Start with purpose. Decide whether your priority is reputation, relationships, knowledge, contribution, career development, revenue, promotion or another concrete outcome. Your profile, content and network activity should then support that purpose.

1. Decide whether Follow or Connect fits your objective

Follow is useful when you want people to consume your ideas without requiring a mutual connection. Connect is more appropriate when relationship-building and a reciprocal professional network are central to your LinkedIn® activity. The right choice depends on what you are trying to achieve.

2. Make your profile explain why someone should pay attention

The old Creator Mode label never made a profile credible by itself. Your headline, About section, Experience, Featured content and supporting evidence need to communicate a coherent professional proposition.

3. Publish around subjects you can credibly own

You no longer select “Talks about” hashtags for your profile. That makes editorial consistency more important, not less. Repeatedly contributing useful thinking around a recognisable set of subjects gives people a clearer reason to associate you with those areas.

4. Use analytics as evidence, not a scorecard

Creator analytics can help you understand what is being seen and how your audience is developing. Avoid treating reach alone as the objective. The useful question is whether your LinkedIn® activity is helping the people who matter understand, trust, remember or engage with you.

Can I still activate Creator Mode?

No. The Creator Mode on/off toggle was removed in 2024. Instructions telling you to find the old switch in the Resources section are outdated.

Can I still turn Creator Mode off?

No separate Creator Mode now exists to turn off. Instead, review the individual profile and creator settings that matter to you, including whether Follow or Connect should be your primary action.

What happened to “Talks about” hashtags?

LinkedIn removed the profile hashtags/topics associated with Creator Mode in February 2024. Your positioning now needs to be communicated through the substance of your profile and activity rather than that label.

The important change

Creator Mode used to encourage people to think about LinkedIn® as a switch: turn it on and become a creator. That is no longer useful. Creating a credible presence is an operating choice — what you want to be known for, who needs to know it, what evidence supports it and how consistently you contribute.
