A monthly LinkedIn® content retainer is an ongoing agreement to plan, create, publish, or manage content. The phrase sounds specific, but it can describe very different services—from a fixed batch of executive posts to the active management of an entire Company Page.

The right arrangement depends less on how many posts you want and more on which recurring problem needs an owner.

What can a monthly LinkedIn® content retainer include?

Most retainers combine some of the following work:

Never assume that “content management” includes all of these. Ask for a written scope that identifies who supplies the ideas, who produces each asset, who approves it, and who is responsible after publication.

Five common retainer models

1. Executive writing retainer

A writer develops posts, articles, or newsletters for a named executive. This can work when the executive has valuable expertise but limited writing time. It requires reliable access to the person’s real thinking and a disciplined approval process.

2. Editorial strategy and production

This combines planning with content creation. The provider may manage themes, formats, deadlines, source material, and approvals while the client retains responsibility for publishing and engagement.

It suits an organization that already has clear account ownership but needs a dependable editorial operation.

3. LinkedIn® Company Page management

A Company Page management retainer covers the Page as an ongoing business asset rather than treating it as a container for weekly posts. The scope may include strategy, copy, graphics, scheduling, comments, analytics, Page optimization, newsletters, employee participation, and agreed executive contributions.

This model is appropriate when the recurring problem is not simply writing. It is the lack of one person holding the company’s presence, inputs, publishing rhythm, and improvement process together.

4. Employee advocacy and leadership activation

Some retainers focus on helping employees or leaders contribute consistently. This may include profile reviews, training, prompts, content support, governance, and coordination with the Company Page.

It should build confident participation rather than turn employees into a distribution network for identical corporate posts.

5. Newsletter management

A newsletter retainer may cover editorial planning, research, writing, production, approval, publication, and performance review for a recurring LinkedIn® newsletter. Confirm whether the first-edition setup, visual format, subscriber strategy, and associated Page posts are included or priced separately.

Choose the model by the ownership problem

Before comparing providers, identify what repeatedly fails inside the business:

A retainer should solve the operating problem. Buying a larger monthly content quota will not compensate for unclear ownership.

How monthly retainers are priced

Providers may price by output volume, access to senior expertise, time allocation, channel responsibility, or a defined managed-service scope. A lower monthly figure may cover drafting only; a higher one may include strategy, design, publishing, engagement, reporting, and coordination across several people.

Warning signs

Be cautious when a retainer is sold primarily through a guaranteed volume of posts, vague promises of reach, or screenshots of isolated high-performing content. A provider can improve relevance, clarity, consistency, and execution. They cannot responsibly guarantee distribution, leads, or sales.

Also look carefully at arrangements where the person selling the service will not be the person doing the work, or where the provider expects to manufacture opinions without regular access to genuine expertise.

When a retainer is not the right answer

Ongoing support may be unnecessary when the underlying problem is a neglected profile, an incomplete Company Page, or the absence of a clear strategy. A focused optimization or planning project may solve the immediate issue without creating a recurring commitment.

A retainer is most valuable when the need itself is recurring and the provider has a clearly defined responsibility for meeting it.

The Leaders Social approach

Leaders Social does not currently sell a standalone monthly executive ghostwriting retainer. The core recurring service is actively managed LinkedIn® Company Pages for established B2B companies.

Company Page Management is £1,500 per month, with a three-month minimum and one month’s notice. The agreed scope can include the content calendar, copy and graphics, scheduling, comments, analytics, strategy, employee coaching, Page optimization, newsletters, and agreed executive writing.

Fox Tucker personally performs the work and deliberately limits capacity. This makes the service an ownership and management relationship—not a monthly bundle of interchangeable posts.
